Practical tyre advice

How to find your tyre size

Read the sidewall marking

In the example 205/55 R16, 205 is the nominal width in millimetres, 55 is the sidewall height as a percentage of width, R indicates radial construction and 16 is the wheel diameter in inches. This is an example, not a recommendation for your vehicle.

The following number and letter indicate load index and speed rating. Other markings can identify reinforced, commercial or run-flat specifications. Include the complete marking in your enquiry rather than stopping after the wheel diameter.

Check the affected tyre

Some vehicles use different sizes on the front and rear. Read the tyre that needs replacing and say which wheel is affected. A clear sidewall photo can be easier than typing several markings.

The existing tyre is a useful starting point, but the correct replacement must still match the vehicle requirements. The handbook and manufacturer information help verify the specification, especially if the wheels or tyres have been changed.

If the markings are difficult to see

Do not crouch next to moving traffic, reach under the vehicle or move it on a conventional flat tyre simply to read the size. Your safety matters more than completing a quote field.

Send the registration, model and any size information you already have. Explain if the vehicle is a van or EV, uses run-flat tyres or has modified wheels. The specification can be discussed before attendance.

A useful message for a quote

Share your location, registration or tyre size, the affected wheel and the issue. Add preferred timing for a planned fitting. Availability and price are confirmed directly; entering a size on this site does not reserve stock.

  • Location or postcode and access details.
  • Registration and a sidewall photo if safe.
  • Affected tyre and whether it is damaged, flat or due for replacement.
